I’ve laboured about starting a substack for some time, and frankly, I only had the courage to start writing here after I got a casual journalism gig. 

At the beginning of this year, I had, what felt like, a stable full-time journalism job. 

Despite not entirely feeling aligned with the values of the company I was working for, I thought it was a pretty sweet gig until suddenly the role was made redundant. 

Shortly after being made redundant, I was offered a full-time role, but the role felt like a major step backward. And I had interviews at other organisations that I wanted to hear out before making a decision. 

I also got damn close to getting a political reporter job in another state, but then the company had a hiring freeze. 

The whole thing has been a total friggin mess. 

But anyway, I’m trying to do my own thing and give freelancing a chance!

This substack is going to be dedicated to weird little niche topics that don’t really have a home anywhere else.
